The difference between canine Advantage and K-9 Advantix for dogs is that K-9 Advantix has 2 active ingredients (Imidacloprid and Permethrin) and Advantage for dogs or cats has just one (Imidacloprid). Advantage, with fewer active ingredients, also has fewer listed potential fallouts. Whenever you are trying to decide on using K-9 Advantix for dogs versus Advantage, I'd start with Advantage (cheaper, fewer chemicals) and see whenever it's effective for your dog. Whenever you need something stronger, than escalate to K9 Advantix for dogs, or in the case of a cat, switch to Frontline Plus for cats due to the different chemical make up of the medicine.

Frontline Plus has an entirely different set of active ingredients (Fipronil and S-methoprene) and is also not listed as having any known fallouts. You will be able to start with Frontline, or switch to Frontline whenever Advantix or Advantage isn't working for you. I'll point out that Frontline Plus is the only one of the three that indicates it's safe to use for puppies or kittens as young as 8 weeks or on pregnant/lactating female dogs. However, it is always a good idea to check with your veterinarian before using any pesticide products whenever you've a dog or cat whose health is sensitive.

The bottom line is that it's important to use some kind of flea control product on your dog or cat whenever you sleep in an area with fleas, mosquitoes or ticks. These parasites suck blood and can carry diseases. The disease can spread from wild animals to pets and to humans.
